Phishing and spear phishing are considered some of the biggest threats to your organization as a single click by a worker can allow access to your network and applications. In other cases, it can install ransomware which locks up all your files and requests a ransom.
The hacker could be a lone hacker, part of organized crime or even a terrorist organization such as ISIS. Even if the ransom is paid, there is no guarantee files will be unlocked.
